A Snapshot captures the entire state of an entity at the time of capture. This provides protection for data and systems by making roll-back points available (Snapshot timestamps). Snapshots are also commonly used for testing and development as they allow for easily returning a system to a previous condition after performing a test.
Snapshots provide instant backup and recovery and have no performance impact.
At the moment a Snapshot is taken, there is no effect on the actual storage used, as the Snapshot and original data are the same. Storage space is consumed only as the source data diverges from the Snapshot.
Snapshots allow for recovering/roll-back:
Snapshot Profiles allow customizable scheduling to automate taking and cleaning up Snapshots regularly. Snapshot Profiles can be assigned at the Cloud, NAS Volume, and individual VM levels.
A Snapshot can be taken on the fly, as needed. For example, immediately before a major update, change, test, or to provide a fail-back in case of an unforeseen problem.
